Collection: What the Water Kept

Wood the ocean spent years working on, and we left alone.

Every piece in this collection was found in the coastal inlets of North Carolina, pulled from the water on shrimping and fishing runs. Not one line in any of them was cut by a blade. The ridges, hollows, and openings were made slowly — by salt, by tide, by time — and we didn't correct a single one.

What we do is small by comparison. We seal the wood to preserve it, build a pine base by hand, and give it somewhere to stand so it can be seen. Then we get out of the way.

Turn any of them and they become something else. The names are what we saw first, not instructions.
